Green Flag scores 8.0/10, our top score, on the strongest customer-experience evidence in our comparison: 4.6★ from 2,920 Google reviews, the largest sample we have. It publishes no price, so you’ll need a quote to compare, and if you want personal cover, “our personal cover is only for vehicles under 16 years old“. Start Rescue scores 7.8/10, the highest of the providers that publish a price: every level is priced, from £31.58 a year, it confirms all six standard features, carries a Defaqto 5-star rating, and its page says it is a “Which? Recommended Provider 2026“.

Entry price is the lowest price each provider publishes for car cover on its own pages, checked on 22 October 2026; “Get a quote” means the pages we checked publish none. Entry levels differ in what they include, so compare at the level you need. Google ratings are from the same date. Scores are the rubric’s, re-set on 24 October 2026 against these facts.
Saga isn’t in the table because it doesn’t run its own cover: its breakdown cover is “provided by RAC Motoring Services and RAC Insurance Limited“. We score the cover once, on the RAC review. The Saga review covers how you buy it.
The two biggest brands are the two lowest-scoring on customer experience in our data.
AA (2.4★ from 166 Google reviews) and RAC (2.4★ from 752 reviews) are the UK’s most recognised breakdown brands and both operate the largest patrol fleets. They also both score below every other provider in our table that has a Google listing — RAC’s sample is big enough that it’s a settled signal, not statistical noise. We say this openly because a trusted advisor telling you what you already know isn’t very useful.
